It was dark, pitch black inside the empty space. It wasn’t outside but it wasn’t inside. Somehow it was an in between of both of those things. There was no sky but there was no ceiling either. The floor or ground was covered in a faint fog. It swished as they walked through it. They couldn’t tell where they were going or what direction they were meant to go but they felt compelled to go this way.
The fog swirled around their feet as they walked and somehow, they tripped. In the fog there was something else there. A podium or platform in the darkness that they couldn’t have seen or guessed was there before. The darkness didn’t lessen as they stepped onto it, gaining only a couple inches of extra height. They stepped into place and folded their arms.
“What kind of dream is this?” they asked then laughed to themself. They rarely had control over their dreams like that. Rarely even had the conscious effort to ask questions like that which meant they were what? Lucid dreaming. It was a fun idea to just explore the inside of the dream and see where it took them.
Suddenly they were engulfed in blue light. It extended straight into the air but it didn’t reach a ceiling, at least not one that they could see but it was still strange to feel. They stared at the blue light and how it reflected against their skin but only served to darken their features to the point where they couldn’t see much of them.
Suddenly another beam of light shot down a few feet away, this one a deep red and within it another shape silhouetted in black and looking around as confused as they were. More pillars of light appeared. Yellow, purple, and pink. There were five of them total lost and confused as to where they were and why they were there.
“What the?” yellow said looking around. “What happened to the party?”
“Cool light show but where the hell are we?” purple asked shrugging their shoulders.
“Better question,” red asked. “Who are all of you guys?”
“You answer first,” pink asked folding their arms.
“That’s a sure-fire way to get an answer,” blue replied shrugging. “But I guess this is a weird enough dream as it is. Doesn’t need to really make sense.”
“If this is a dream then that party really was wild,” yellow laughed and spread their arms. “I gotta get my hands on that stuff again!”
Red clapped their hands together and nodded, “I’m with you on that. This is already the best trip of my life.”
“Jeez you sound like real druggies. Who all did I party with?” blue pressed their hand to their face.
“You are indeed a lively group. I was not sure what to expect from those that would have consumed the crystals.”
A sixth light appeared in the center of them all and a being formed. The being seemed to be made of light entirely and the only definite thing that could be determined was their face, they had soft facial features but no mouth. Just a nose and glowing eyes and hair like soft white flame.
They looked at each of the others within the colored pillars and nodded slowly. The ones within the colors were startled and reacted to their gaze upon them. Some stepping back, others trying to appear tougher, and others out right showing fear. They tilted their head and seemed to smile despite lacking a mouth.
“You are all an interesting group indeed. But I wonder if you will rise to the trial that is to come,” they said and held their hand out. Orbs appeared above their palms one by one, each one a matching color to each of them. “Hopefully succeeding where many have failed.”
“Trial? What trial?” red asked and stepped forward.
“You will find out very soon,” the entity said and nodded toward them.
“That’s not cryptic at all,” yellow mumbled.
“Do we at least get to know who or what you are?” purple asked.
“You may ask that question. And I have an answer for you,” the entity said closing their hand. “I am what’s known as a Celestial. A being from what you call, outer space. My race is nomadic usually living on our own and away from one another. I have taken a liking to this planet. Your species are interesting and entertaining to observe.”
“Wait hold on. You’re an alien?” pink asked. “Like no shit? Aliens are real.”
“Yes I am very real,”
“I’d love to pick your brain.”
“That will have to wait. Another species has set their gaze upon you all. They call themselves the Taq-Law. What you call machines. They seek to annihilate all organic life. Why they’ve decided upon your planet I’m not sure but the fact remains they are coming.”
“What the hell?” yellow whispered.
“Aliens?” Purple repeated.
“Are coming here to kill us all,” Pink shook their head.
“That’s bullshit,” Red shook their head.
Blue put their hands on their head, “This is seriously turning into a nightmare.”
“Why’re we here then?” Red asked and glared. “Why tell the five of us?”
The entity tilted their head to the side and folded their hands behind their back. “Very simple. You five are going to stop this from happening.” The stones in their hand hovered higher and each glowed in correspondence to the light of the others. “When your time of need is before you, if your will is great your stone shall appear before you giving you the power to save not only yourself but your entire world. I look forward to seeing how you will use them. Good luck earthlings.”
Rotating their hand, the entity made the stones disappeared slowly. Winking out one by one from existence and then slowly closed their hand one finger at a time. One by one the colored lights faded away. It continued like this until the entirety of the room was dark. Blue watched it in anticipation before staring at the entity, trying to engrave its face in their mind before finally they were dismissed as well.
