Terran Knights: Chapter 7

“So you had the dream too huh?”

“Hell yeah I did!”

“Good. Marco didn’t believe me when I told him.”

“Well he didn’t get wasted like we did.”

“I at least got up the next day. You were out of it the entire weekend.”

“I also did more activities than you did.”

Sarah hit the back of his head lightly, “Yeah like flirt with that Asian girl.”

“It wasn’t flirting I swear.”

“I know what I saw loser.”

She continued to beat on his back and head and he winced trying to ignore the blows but she wasn’t slowing down. He was carrying her at the moment, both his arms under her butt and keeping her up in the air but she was making that more and more difficult the longer she went.

“So what color were you standing in on the platform thing?” Jack asked trying to distract her away from his potential flirtations while cross faded.

“I think I was standing on the yellow one,” she wrinkled her nose in thought as she wrapped her arms around his neck. “Yeah I was bathed in yellow light. It was weird.”

“Yellow huh. I was in the red one. It was trippy that’s for sure”

“You were the red guy?”

“What of it?” he asked looking up at her and she shook her head.

“Oh nothing babe. I just remember the red one sounded like such a cute guy.”

She laughed pushing her fingers against his head and rubbing it lightly and then pulled him closer and rubbing her face against the back of his head. She liked it when his hair grew out a bit after being cut. It was soft and wooly like a sheep’s. He smiled feeling her contentment and walked toward the edge of the street, just waiting for the light to change colors.

Sarah looked ahead of them and stared down the street from her very different vantage point. “We both dreamed it. Does that mean we’re crazy or that we just had a really good shared high?”

“I have no idea. Maybe we did have a really good high or maybe we’re actually supposed to work together to protect the planet from the Taktaks right?”

“TakLaI think is what they said.”

“Something weird like that.”

“Whatever it was I’d be a kick ass yellow whatever,” she said and rested her head on his head again closing her eyes.

The light changed colors and they crossed. There weren’t a lot of people around but the sight of a tall black man carrying a smaller Hispanic girl still managed to get them some looks. Sarah was dozing off but he knew that if she were awake she would have had some choice comments towards the people that stared.

Passing one of the empty parks nearby he slowed as if he were walking through some sort of deep water. The ground rumble slightly under his feet like some sort of mini earthquake but then the cause of it made it’s presence very known. The ground in the middle of the street exploded outward and suddenly the pair of them were thrown backwards and sprayed by water that fountained up from the ground.

Jack groaned and rolled to his feet slowly reaching out for Sarah who was stunned on her back but making soft groans. Jack crawled toward her quickly and then looked back toward the street and watching the water. The ground shook again and metal legs stepped out of the water one at a time. It was a large metal cylinder with a rotating red light along its faces on four legs. It swiveled on the ground but hadn’t focused on anything yet.

“What the fuck?” Sarah almost shouted as she got to her feet and grasped for Jack, pulling him up to his feet. “Is that a walking tin can?”

“No idea. We should probably run.”

“Good idea.”

The cylinder whirled the red light on its face flipping around and focused on the pair of them. The dot split into two and both of them suddenly had laser pointers focused on their chest. It paused then vibrated and suddenly twins beams, of red launched out of the creature and spiraled toward them.

Jack started to moved, pushing Sarah behind him his hand outstretched. Sarah kept her hand against his back and tried to pull him out of the way with her.

Time slowed to a crawl and in their palms they both felt cool rocks pressed hard against their skin. As the pair of smooth cut gems started to vibrate and glow a voice spoke to them, the very same one from their dream.

Your love for one another is truly powerful. Let that passion become your weapon.

Time caught up and the lasers exploded raining dirt and debris everywhere. But when the smoke cleared the pair of them were standing unscathed. Armored gauntlets and boots, with suits covering their chest, red for Jack and yellow for Sarah, on their bodies. Helmets glared in the sunlight and the two of them stared at one another shocked. “Whoa look at you!”

“Look at you!”

The cylindrical robot thing whirred as it started rushing toward them clacking against the ground and its red light getting brighter and brighter. “I guess the dream was real huh?” Jack said watching it come forward. “I think it’s time to go to work.”

“You just can’t help yourself can you babe,” she felt energy coursing through her like seven energy drinks and she threw her arms down. A pair of axes appeared in each of her hands, the blades crackling with energy. She charged forward with both weapons like it was the most natural thing to do.

She swung both weapons into the front of the machine and it shook under the impact sliding to the side. She pulled and yanked the axes free, watching sparks fly from the circuits she’d exposed. Red energy sparked to life across Jack’s palms and a long black pole materialized with a curved red blade at the end. Darting forward he swung the scythe and cut the machine open. He rolled past it and the machine wobbled before exploding on the grass.

Jack stared at his weapon then back at Sarah, “Marco’s gonna flip his shit.”
