Terran Knights 2: Chapter 12

“I didn’t need your help Vixen,” the silver clad dark knight said.

Their wings flexed and rose slowly. They looked at one of their wings and there was no worse for wear. In fact, it looked as good as new, the slash that Jack had done across it’s body not even visible anymore.

Their companion turned, a dark glint of light behind the cowl and where the visor was hidden, “That’s not what I saw Hawk. But maybe I got tired of you playing with your food.”

“What’s the point of having this kinda power if we’re not going to have fun with it?”

“You’ll have more than enough time to have fun with it after we do what that Celestial said,” Vixen crouched low to the floor and traced a gloved hand over it, the claws on hand scraping against it. Raising their head, they stared at Sarah as she took a step back but raised both axes.

“Yeah yeah,” Hawks spread their wings, pointing both of them at Jack and Marco. “I’ll handle these two.”

“And that leaves the girl to me I guess?”

“Assuming that’s a girl,” Snorting they leaped high into the air with one flap of his wings.

Vixen stared at Sarah as they stood slowly, “So you think you can handle me all by yourself?” they asked. “That’s bold I’ll give you that.”

Tapping her axes against one another she charged the edges with power. Spinning one in her hand she darted at them closing the distance in only a few steps. Everything that happened to Kathryn was echoing through her mind so she was going to take this slow. She was in no hurry to rush to her boys, they could take care of themselves.

Once she was close she swung hard aiming right down the middle and at their head. Before it could connect her arm was dragged away and into the floor. Staring she gasped seeing a black fox with bright red eyes, its jaws locked around her axe. Swinging her other axe at the animal another materialized out of the air biting down and yanking forward.

“What the flying fuck?” she shouted at the growling animals as they continued to pull and thrash their tails her way.

Looking up she watched Vixen sprint her way and jump. Bending over backwards she went under their fist and with a shout lifted both foxes off the floor and threw them and her axes across the airport. The weapons faded into electricity and the foxes were left sprawling through the chairs.

Reforming the weapons in her hand she leaped after Vixen. One axe slammed into the floor but the other hit them in the back with a flash of lightning. She could hear them grunt and whirled around to catch the next axe swing in their hand. The lightning jumped to life again racing along their arm but they didn’t crumple.

The foxes raced across the floor and bit at her arm pit and shoulder tugging her backwards. She turned her attention to them once again but they let go and opened their jaws wide. Before she could blink she was engulfed in flames. Her armor took the brunt but the heat was getting to her quickly.

She started to take a step back but Vixen pulled on the axe, holding her in place. Shouting louder she looked back and forth between them and finally threw her free axe at the floor. Lightning crackled and exploded blowing them all away from one another.

Rolling across the floor she picked herself up and shook off the burning sensation in her chest and glared daggers the dark knight. Their black armor was like a void of light and the cowl hid any trace what may have been going on their visor let alone their face. The two foxes padded around Vixen’s feet glaring at her. What should have been fur was like thin interlocking pieces of metal not unlike their armor. But they didn’t seem to be robots. On the contrary they looked very much alive.

“So, you’ve got some mutts. Alright, I’ll admit I wasn’t expecting that.”

She started to say something else when a trio of gun shots cut her off. Turning to the noise she had a few seconds before Marco slammed into her. The pair bounced across the floor and into the chairs breaking some in twain and knocking away abandoned bags. Marco got to his feet first and helped her to her feet.

“So I take it you’ve had no luck either?” Marco asked.

“I wish,” Sarah pointed at them her axe manifesting again. “Fucking fox friends over there have been a pain in my ass. What about you guys and bird brain?”

Looking past her, he held up his hand, “Hold that thought.”

Spinning the barrel of his gun he fired the red bullet into the air. Teleporting to the spot he watched as Jack flew through the air and right into his arms. Using his momentum, he turned in the air and launched Jack back toward Sarah. Turning his gun around he pointed back at them and fired.

Sarah caught Jack on instinct, almost sloppily dropping him. Marco appeared beside them panting softly and looked at the sky. Hawk floated forward their wings pumping slowly. Their armor was sporting a few more scratches and dents from the collective focus of the weapons. But the ground being littered with feather blades showed just how much damage that had managed to successfully do.

Hawk floated forward and landed beside Vixen, their wings folding against their back neatly and they laughed, “They’re way weaker than I thought. You’re right, let’s end this.”

“We need to get out of here,” Marco said softly looking at the two of them.

“What?” Jack replied.

“We can’t beat them here,” Sarah said watching as they rapidly closed the distance. “But how are we even going to get out of here.”

“You act like you forget how I work,” Marco said spinning the barrel of his gun. It settled on purple and he flipped the gun around firing at the ground sending up explosions of energy. Flipping it to blue next he erected the translucent walls in their path but he heard them shattering almost as fast as they had been created.

Finally, though he spun it around to the red barrel and he felt the pair of them grab onto him. Aiming straight up he fired and they vanished into a flash of red light. Hawks and Vixen stared at where they were and then looked up in time to watch part of the roof start to collapse and crash down onto them. Hawks wings moved to protect them as they were buried in smoke and debris.

Shoving the majority of it off Hawk spread their wings and chuckled, “Run run while you can. We’re hunting for you now.”
