A car flipped into the air, flames racing out of the exhaust before exploding and rolling down the street. It joined a perimeter of other cars that the police were currently hiding behind. They’d attempted to negotiate with them, to threaten them and even tried shooting them but it was met with negative results.
Hawks floated above the ground their wings spread wide welcoming them to try again. But it was just more taunting because they knew that anything they tried would be was a waste of time. Plus Hawk enjoyed the taunting.
“Come on I thought you were Chicago’s finest! Let me see some of that!” they shouted sending another barrage of bladed feathers out.
They punctured doors and broke what windows were left. One car toppled backwards from the intenseness and Hawks laughed again gliding toward the ground to land on their feet. Turning around they raised a wing to motion toward their companions. “Come on, you two should join me. It’s nice being able to stick some pigs.”
Vixen looked over at them, a pair of foxes at their feet sitting patiently, and they shook their head. Another fox was positioned atop a nearby bench watching the street in one direction and another on a building watching from far above. “I don’t play the games of lesser men. This show boating is a game of a lesser man.”
Hawks snarled behind his helmet and floated forward floating in front of them, “You know I don’t need some bitch’s help. Maybe I should try skinning some foxes instead of the pigs.
Vixen didn’t move but the two foxes at her feet moved in a blur snapping at the feet of Hawks who just floated back with a sharp laugh. “Watch what you say Hawk. This partnership can end right now. Myself and Aegis over there can do this without you.”
“I wish you’d try,” Hawks threatened arcing his wings forward.
Aegis stepped forward getting between the two of them, the only splash of color amongst them and kept them both at arm’s length with one another. “Will you two stop it? Fighting each other is just going to make it harder to kill our real opponents. And I for one have no interest in fighting those six with just two of us.”
“And here I thought you were a quiet one kid,” Hawks smirked and backed off. “Then again maybe you want to fight man to man. Kill some time.”
Aegis stared at him and shook his head, “I think you’ve done enough killing for all of us.”
Hawks floated backwards and looked at the damage that he had indeed caused. The many bodies with feathers sticking out of their backs and heads. Or some people just eviscerated by his wings in general. He glanced at the blood on his feather’s edges and chuckled. “I supposed I might have. Just having some fun.”
“Your idea of fun is barbaric,” Vixen said looking at her foxes which wandered closer to her and rested against the ground. The two that were watching however didn’t back down from their positions.
“Like your dumb mutts don’t have fun chewing on corpses,” Hawks floated backwards the edge of his wing swiping at a fox. It hopped out of the way growling in his direction but he ignored it just the same.
“They do as they will. I won’t stop them,” Vixen replied. “But this plan of yours. It’s going nowhere fast.”
Aegis nodded as he looked at the police that he knew were still stationed safely probably discussing some sort of strategy. He didn’t like this. Killing the Terran Knights were one thing but attacking people in the middle of the city was another. It made his chest tight with guilt.
“You think they won’t show up? After all this? Nah they’re going to show up and we’re going to do them in,” Hawks said dragging a claw across his throat and smirking. “But I’m getting really bored. I think I’m going to find something interesting to do.”
“I can only imagine what that means,” Vixen said dismissively.
“I can take a guess,” Aegis said looking away.
Hawks spread his wings higher and flew above the tops of the apartments near them and turned around basking in the cold sunlight. Whirling around he turned and dove right at the line of officers. He could hear the beginnings of them shouting to take cover before he slammed into the ground sending cars and bodies into the air.
Turning on his feet he spread his wings and whipped around slicing off the tops of the remaining cars and any cops who made the mistake of trying to remain standing. The few that had dove away and were able to stand whipped out their standard issue guns and fired but the bullets just bounced off the armor like nothing.
Diving forward he spun swinging his wings to cut open the chest of another officer and thrusting his hand forward grabbed a second by the throat. Lifting him off the ground he stared at the officer soaking in the expression on his face before tossing him into the ground. He moved to crush his head when something made him pause. A sensation that rippled along his skin.
“There they are,” he said slowly and walked away from the officers jumping backwards into the air. Spreading his wings, he caught the wind and flew backwards to gain as much elevation as he could and watched them approach.
The fox on the roof barked sharply and darted down, racing back to Vixen’s side. It joined the other three as a miniature pack around her. Vixen raised a hand, claws appearing at each finger and nodded slowly. “I guess the fools plan worked.”
“Finally,” Aegis said tapping his fists together and stepping forward.
The trio stepped over the line of cars and watched as the six gleaming colors of armor descended upon their scene of carnage. It was like looking in a strange twisted mirror. Except if a mirror doubled who was looking in it and altered the colors.
Sarah said, “They really did a number out here. But we’re late so I guess every ones out.”
Hawks smirked looking at the trio, “The gangs all here. Let’s make this quick eh?”
“Finally, I can get my revenge,” Aegis said pressing his hands together and then raising his fist in front of him.
“I want another crack at the pet owner,” Sarah said manifesting her axes.
Conjuring his sword Cal nodded, “I’ll help you out.”
“It looks like my foxes will feed tonight,” Vixen said gathering the animals around herself.
“I’m getting a little payback for myself,” Kathryn spun her fingers as her staff appeared and she tapped it against the ground. “You helping Violet?”
“Oh I think I can swing that,” he said standing beside her.
Jack tapped Marco’s shoulder pointing at Hawks, “Let’s take him down.”
Marco nodded, “Team, let’s go to work.”
