Terran Knights 3: Chapter 42

“Are you sure you’re okay?” Gen asked.

“Probably not but,” Owen shrugged. “After everything I really want to move. But I probably shouldn’t be training in the gym. I’m glad to wear regular clothes though.”

The pair of them were walking through the park in the darkness of the night. They’d passed a couple of night runners but for the most part they were alone. After the massive flash of light in the sky they tried to figure out what the cause was but without the crystal they couldn’t know for sure. And they couldn’t get in touch with the Astro Knights.

So they separated. Went home and recover from everything but were ready in case something new happened. Though they all really just wanted a few hours off from their jobs. Owen looked down at his hands and frowned hard, not talking. Gen watched him, knowing he wanted to say something.

“Talk.”

“What?”

“Don’t act like nothing happened Owen.”

He tried to smile but it didn’t finish. He shook his head, “I just. I remember being under Legion’s control. I was watching myself do awful things. To people. To you. And,” his hands shook and he felt his tears start to roll down his cheeks.

Gen stopped him and moved to stand in front of him and held him.

“It wasn’t you. It was that fucked up alien in your head.” She reached forward and took both his hands pressing her forehead against his. “And we saved you. Saved everyone. And we’re going to kick Legion’s ass too. And then we can go back to our normal lives.”

“As normal as we are,” Owen said and smiled gently. He wiped at his eyes slowly. He frowned again. “But what if I get taken over again? And we have to fight each other?”

“I don’t know. You’re the alien super hero. I’m just a successful kung fu actress,” she shrugged.

He snorted, “You’re more than that. Way more.”

“I know,” she smirked walking forward again. She reached into the bag at her hip and paused looking at the piece of the crystal. It was still dull, almost black, without a glow but Marco had said to hold onto it and she was. Moving past it she pulled out the necklace. She turned it over in her hand then split it apart. She turned around and faced Owen. “Here.”

His eyes widened staring at the necklace, “You bought it? I thought you said it was a cheap gimmicky thing.”

“It is. But it’s cute. And. After losing you once I’d rather have more moments like this,” she said softly.

“Gen,” He took the necklace and wrapped it around his neck slowly. Staring at the yin symbol against his neck he smiled broadly. And Gen smiled back looking at him.

“Owen?”

Owen looked up suddenly and stared at Alice and Jenny as they walked down the opposite side of the path. Alice paused her eyes widened and Jenny pointed at him, “Is that really him?”

“Yeah it’s him in there,” Gen said pointing at him. “What are you guys doing out here?”

Jenny frowned glancing down, “Yeah. We had. An eventful afternoon and things. Didn’t go well. Yaya wants to be alone, so here we are.”

“What happened? Was that thing on the moon you guys?” Gen asked.

“Yeah,” Jenny smiled awkwardly. “I guess you guys were busy here while we were gone though. Is everyone back?”

“Yeah. Your dad is something special,” Gen said softly.

“Wait her dad?” Owen looked at her back and forth. “Who’s her dad? Who are they? I mean you look really familiar,” he motioned toward Alice and she tensed slightly at the comment. “Have we met?”

Gen looked over him but then remembered he wasn’t around for this part. Sighing she pointed, “They’re from the future. Astro Knights. Like you guys but shinier and space. They were hunting Legion and went into a black hole, popped out here. Yada yada. It’s a lot.”

Owen looked like his head was fried and he had a blank smile on his face. “Time travel. Okay. Cool. Well. I’m Owen Haag. Nice to meet you.”

Jenny smiled, “I’m Jenny White. I’m Marco, Sarah and Jack’s daughter by the way.”

“Oh. Cool!” Owen said. “You kinda look like them.” He looked at her choker and his eyes lit up. “Hey you have one too!” He pointed at his necklace. “Guess we shopped at the same place.”

“Actually, my girlfriend gave it for me,” she beamed at Alice but frowned because she saw the conflict on her face. “Alice? Are you okay?”

“My name is Alice,” her voice wavered slightly but she steadied it. “Alice Haag.”

Owen, Gen and Jenny’s eyes went wide at the announcement. “Haag?” Owen repeated blinking slowly. Gen stared at her though, her eyes widened as she mouthed piecing it all together.

Jenny looked at her, squeezing her hand lightly, “Alice. Are you sure?”

She looked down at her and nodded slowly, “Yes. After what happened with Yaya. I want them to know. Just in case.”

Jenny squeezed her hand even tighter, raising it up and kissing her hand gently. She smiled appreciating the gesture. “Do you want to be alone? With them?”

She paused, conflicted, for a moment and nodded slowly, “Yes. Thanks babe.”

“No problem,” she kissed her gently and started running away back toward the city. That left Alice looking awkwardly at Gen and Owen.

“You said Haag right?” Owen said. “Like H-A-A-G?” She nodded quickly. “That’s my name. Are you saying that we’re related?”

She swallowed and blinked quickly before nodding toward her, “You’re my dad. And you’re my mom. I’m your daughter from the future.” She looked at Gen for a moment and tried to smile but it was difficult. “My. My friend lost her family. And. And I almost lost you too.”

She took a hesitant step forward and then ran forward and threw her arms around Owen. She was taller than him and she held him tightly trying not to cry. But she couldn’t hold it back and held him tightly. And he hugged her back, unsure but this felt right. He looked at Gen and saw her uneasy grimace and he offered her a smile.

“I guess we have a lot to talk about,” he whispered. “You know I’ve always liked the name Alice.”
