Seth sat at his cubicle staring at his computers screen saver bouncing around at the corners. A rapidly changing globe that swapped between whatever RGB setting was on the docket. Something flat out of the early eighties but he didn’t bother trying to change or make something better.

Cal woke up into the darkness again. He’d been here before, the night of the party. The same darkness that felt like being inside a concert hall or outside in a stadium. Insulated stale air mixed with fresh air. It was equally refreshing and stifling in a way that he couldn’t actually process.

The robot looked like something out of a movie. Sleek metal body that gleamed in the light from the mall. It was just like a trash can but with legs. It was tall, close to eight feet tall and but its four spider like legs were bent meaning it could get taller.

“So first there was the train derailing this morning,” “Yep yep.” “Then the thing with the gas explosion this afternoon in the middle of the street.” “What do you think is going to end up being next at this rate?”
“So you had the dream too huh?” “Hell yeah I did!”
“I’m heading out Marco!” “Be careful Sarah. Call me when you’ve found him. Be safe.”
She tossed and turned in bed, color flashing behind her eyes. She squinted, reaching out in the darkness to pull something closer. Anything. The sound of rending metal directly behind him answered his question. Jumping to his feet he whirled to face the door and watched the sparks flying toward the window. Stumbling backwards he watched as thick metal blades sawed into the car and started ripping it away.
His computer blinked out of screen saver mode to flash an email. It was from his boss. He recognized the generic writing as probably the secretary’s words and not from his bosses own finger tips.
