Cal opened his eyes and groaned rolling in bed. Reaching out he touched empty space and frowned glancing around the apartment. “Babe where you at?” he called lazily.

“So you were successful yet again,” the celestial asked. “It seems your planet is in good hands.”

“You know I didn’t believe him at first but these really are good,” Jack said balancing the strawberry filled pastry on his fingers. “It’s like the toaster strudels from when we were kids but you know. Adult.”

Seth sat at his cubicle staring at his computers screen saver bouncing around at the corners. A rapidly changing globe that swapped between whatever RGB setting was on the docket. Something flat out of the early eighties but he didn’t bother trying to change or make something better.

Cal woke up into the darkness again. He’d been here before, the night of the party. The same darkness that felt like being inside a concert hall or outside in a stadium. Insulated stale air mixed with fresh air. It was equally refreshing and stifling in a way that he couldn’t actually process.

The robot looked like something out of a movie. Sleek metal body that gleamed in the light from the mall. It was just like a trash can but with legs. It was tall, close to eight feet tall and but its four spider like legs were bent meaning it could get taller.

“So first there was the train derailing this morning,” “Yep yep.” “Then the thing with the gas explosion this afternoon in the middle of the street.” “What do you think is going to end up being next at this rate?”
